JULIUS VITALI

Julius Vitali is an author of two books; The Fine Artist's Guide to
Marketing and Self-Promotion (revised edition 2003) and a contributing
writer to The Artists Quest for Inspiration 2004. He is one of the
pioneers of digital art (beginning in 1980), however he has experimented
with oil painting, sculpture, photography, fashion, and new music. The
New York Times has said of his work, “with modern technology and bold
innovation, Mr. Vitali stands apart as a kind of one-man frontier for the
avant-garde. It has been easy to regard him as someone who is pushing
the limits of art in a very positive way.”
Some of his surrealistic fashions (ties, jewelry & hair sculptures) have
appeared in international magazines like Panorama, Stern, and Elle and
in the prestigious traveling international exhibition Fashion and
Surrealism.
While working with techniques that are often considered
“experimental,” Vitali has consistently received coverage in the
mainstream media. He is the originator of “Puddle Art, which uses the
reflective qualities of water as a liquid canvas, being featured on the
celebrated David Letterman Show, and in numerous national and
international magazines.
Vitali’s “Visual Music” using musical notes in graphic patterns, has
received attention on CNN and has been used in his various multi-media
performances titled Error & Perfection and Awkwardology.
Other organizations that have supported his work include the NEA,
NYFA, PA Council on the Arts, Polaroid, Kodak, the Experimental TV
Center, and the Adolph and Ester Gottlieb Foundation.
Currently, one of the principal curators and a contributing artist of the
seminal exhibition Ground Zero, which is a national traveling exhibition
about the effects of 9/11. This show’s media coverage continually grows
receiving first notice in Wired and recently has received funding from
the Puffin Foundation.
Julius Vitali’s intelligent use of the media has bolstered his career,
helping him to secure numerous artist and educational residencies,
receive corporate support, and exhibit in the United States and Europe,
and place artwork in public institutions and private collections.
